Description

David Moret’s Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Abbaye de Morgeot 2023 is a refined white Burgundy made from Chardonnay, combining the richness of Chassagne-Montrachet with the precision and mineral character expected from a premier cru. The Abbaye de Morgeot climat takes its name from the former Morgeot abbey, whose historic influence remains an important part of the appellation’s identity.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a bright, pale golden colour. Its aroma is expressive yet elegant, offering white flowers, ripe pear, citrus zest and subtle notes of toasted almond and finely integrated oak. On the palate, it is supple and concentrated, with a creamy texture balanced by fresh acidity and a distinct mineral undertone. Flavours of orchard fruit, lemon and gentle spice lead to a long, composed finish. With its concentration, acidity and well-judged structure, the 2023 vintage can be enjoyed young after a short period of aeration, but should develop additional complexity over the next several years when properly stored.

Production
Abbaye de Morgeot is one of the best-known premier cru sectors of Chassagne-Montrachet, on the Côte de Beaune, where limestone-rich soils and a favourable exposure provide Chardonnay with both depth and freshness. The grapes are harvested with care to preserve balance and fruit purity, before being gently pressed and fermented in oak. Maturation on the fine lees helps build texture and complexity while allowing the wine’s mineral character and site expression to remain at the forefront.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at approximately 11–13°C, allowing the wine to open gradually in the glass. It pairs beautifully with roast chicken, veal, grilled or poached lobster, scallops, creamy fish dishes and soft, mature cheeses. Decanting is not essential for a young vintage, but 20–30 minutes in a carafe can help reveal its full aromatic range; older bottles are best handled gently and may benefit from careful decanting if sediment is present.
