Description

Davaz Pinot Gris 2024 is a dry Swiss Pinot Gris from Fläsch in Graubünden, with ripe pear, honeysuckle, gentle lees texture and a stony Alpine finish. It has the calm polish Davaz brings to Bündner Herrschaft whites. The schist and limestone edge keeps the 13% body neat and appetising. Serve it cool, then let the floral note open in the glass.

About the Wine
The 2024 Davaz Pinot Gris comes from the Bündner Herrschaft, the compact Graubünden wine area around Fläsch where Davaz is based. The vines draw from limestone and schist soils, and this bottle carries that mix as a pale stone note under the pear fruit. In this wine pear skin and white blossom sit over a clean mineral line that feels very Bündner Herrschaft. The dry 13% frame feels grown from ripe grapes, with a clean finish that stays on pear skin and wet stone. In the cellar, Davaz keeps the 2024 Pinot Gris in stainless steel tanks for fermentation and a short élevage. A few months on the lees add cream to the middle, and the texture feels gently polished. The aromatic focus stays on ripe pear, honeysuckle and a faint almond skin detail from the lees. That choice fits this Graubünden Pinot Gris closely, with body from the grape and a cool line from the site. The last sip leaves a small chalk mark on the tongue.

Tasting Notes
Ripe pear leads the nose of Davaz Pinot Gris 2024, with honeysuckle, white peach skin and a small warm honey note building after a swirl. The first sip feels dry and full, and the few months on lees give the centre a smooth pear-flesh texture that is easy to notice. Graubünden shows in the finish through a schist-like stone scent, a chalky line on the tongue and a cool citrus pith detail. The 13% alcohol sits neatly inside the wine, with enough weight for roasted fish and enough lift for salads dressed with lemon. Drink 2025-2028.

Food Pairing
Pour Davaz Pinot Gris 2024 with pan-fried trout in brown butter finished with parsley and a squeeze of lemon since the dry 13% body has real breadth. The pear fruit mirrors the sweetness of scallops or langoustines, and the chalky finish cleans up garlic, olive oil and shellfish juices. A seafood risotto with prawns feels right when the rice is creamy and the stock has a clean saline edge, leaving the Alpine stone note clear in the glass. For a Graubünden table, serve it with capuns, the chard-wrapped dumplings with herbs and cheese in a creamy sauce with chives and broth. For salad choose shaved fennel, apple, walnuts and mild mountain cheese which pick up the honeysuckle scent and pear-skin snap.

Producer
Davaz is based in Fläsch, a village that carries unusual weight in Swiss wine, and the name is tied to the Bündner Herrschaft in a very exact way for such a small Swiss appellation in the country's eastern mountains. One concrete Davaz trait is the way texture is handled in modest-looking wines, and this 2024 Pinot Gris shows that touch through its smooth middle, dry finish and gentle lees almond after a few minutes in glass. The short lees rest is a quiet detail, and it gives the wine a pear-flesh feel that marks it as Davaz among tank-fermented Pinot Gris from Graubünden especially on the second sip. In the glass pear and honeysuckle lead the aroma, and the producer's hand feels present through polish, stainless steel clarity and a careful dry finish from first smell to last sip. The estate's Fläsch setting brings another Davaz marker, with limestone and schist notes appearing as a fine stone line and a cool citrus-pith edge that echoes the soils listed for this bottle. Davaz is closely associated with the wines of this corner of Switzerland, and this white shows careful handling of a grape that easily becomes broad in warmer hands, finishing with pear skin and chalk.
