Cotarella Falesco Syrah Tellus 2023 is a vibrant and characterful Syrah from Lazio, shaped by the Cotarella family’s deep connection to the land and their long-standing commitment to reviving the region’s historic vineyards. First introduced in Montefiascone, it reflects the estate’s balance of tradition, innovation, and a clear sense of place.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby color with a bright, youthful edge. The nose is expressive and inviting, with notes of ripe dark berries, violet, spice, and a touch of vanilla from its time in wood. On the palate, it is supple and well-balanced, combining juicy fruit with fresh acidity and fine tannins. The short maceration helps preserve fragrance and lift, while the malolactic fermentation in wood adds softness, persistence, and subtle aromatic complexity. It is approachable now, but should also hold well over the next few years.

Production
Tellus Syrah is made entirely from Syrah grapes grown in medium-textured sandy soils in the Lazio area, where the terrain helps support freshness and aromatic purity. The grapes undergo a short 4–5 day skin maceration before fermentation, which is carried out in stainless steel for around 15 days to retain vibrancy and clarity of fruit. Malolactic fermentation then takes place in wood, adding roundness and a finer aromatic layer.

Food & Serving
This Syrah pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, roast poultry, spiced sausages, mushroom dishes, and aged semi-hard cheeses. Serve it slightly cool, ideally at 16–18°C, and decanting for about 20–30 minutes can help open up its aromatic profile.
