Cosimo Varvaglione Collezione Privata Primitivo di Manduria 2021 is a flagship expression of one of Puglia’s most iconic grapes, sourced from old vines and selected with great care by owner and winemaker Cosimo Varvaglione. Deeply rooted in the Salento tradition, it reflects a family legacy that began in 1921, when the Varvaglione family first bottled and sold their own wine under their name.

Tasting Notes
Expect a deeply coloured red with intense concentration and a rich, sun-ripened style. The nose typically opens with dark cherries, plum, blackberry, and a warm layer of Mediterranean spice, often supported by hints of cocoa, vanilla, and dried herbs from careful ageing. On the palate, Primitivo di Manduria is known for its generous texture, ripe fruit, and smooth tannins, delivering plenty of warmth, depth, and a long, velvety finish. This is a wine that can be enjoyed now for its exuberant fruit, but it also has the structure to develop further complexity over the next few years.

Production
The grapes come from old vineyards over 50 years of age in Manduria, one of the most renowned zones for Primitivo in southern Italy. These mature vines naturally produce low yields and concentrated fruit, while the warm Mediterranean climate and local soils help shape the wine’s ripe, powerful character. The best grapes are personally selected by Cosimo Varvaglione, ensuring a strict focus on quality in the final blend.

Food & Serving
This wine is an excellent match for grilled meats, roasted lamb, rich pasta dishes, mature cheeses, and hearty Mediterranean cuisine. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended to allow the aromas to open fully and the wine to show its best balance and depth.
