Cortes do Tua, Tinto 2023

Cortes do Tua Tinto 2023 is a fresh, elegant Douro red from one of Portugal’s most exciting young projects. Created by Duarte da Costa and Ana de Almeida, it combines international winemaking experience with the character and tradition of the Douro, resulting in a wine that is both vibrant and finely balanced.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a ruby-red colour that immediately hints at its youthful energy. The nose is generous and expressive, with aromas of strawberry, raspberry and plum, lifted by a subtle balsamic note that adds complexity and finesse. On the palate, it is juicy and well balanced, with firm tannins, lively acidity and a long, fruit-driven finish. The wine’s structure suggests good short- to medium-term aging potential, allowing its fruit and tannins to integrate further over the next few years.

Production
The grapes come from 15 hectares of carefully divided vineyard parcels in Douro Superior, in Pombal de Ansiães, on the left bank of the Tua River. The site benefits from excellent sun exposure to the south and west, while the vineyards’ varied altitude and old mixed plantings contribute depth and complexity; the red vines are planted on slopes at around 300 to 400 metres above sea level. Duarte and Ana work as organically as possible, and the entire harvest is done by hand to preserve grape quality and respect the vineyard’s natural balance.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile red that pairs beautifully with grilled meats, roasted lamb, pork dishes, charcuterie and mature cheeses. Serve it slightly below room temperature, ideally around 16–18°C, and consider a short decant if serving it young to open up the aromas and soften the tannins.
