Description
Coppo Nizza Pomorosso 2022 is a flagship Barbera from Piedmont, offering a refined expression of one of Italy’s most characterful native grapes. Named after the red apple tree that once stood at the top of the original vineyard, it has played an important role in the revival of Barbera and is only produced in high-quality vintages.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Pomorosso typically shows a deep, vivid ruby colour with attractive density. The nose is elegant and layered, with ripe red and dark berries, floral accents, spice, and a distinct mineral edge that reflects its terroir.
On the palate, it is full-flavoured yet finely structured, balancing Barbera’s naturally bright acidity with supple fruit, freshness, and a long, saline finish. The mineral character brings definition and finesse, while the wine’s quality and structure suggest excellent aging potential.
Production
Pomorosso comes from a vineyard rooted in marine sedimentary soils rich in minerals, a terroir that contributes precision, finesse, and a pronounced mineral profile. The grapes are carefully harvested in selected vintages only, ensuring optimal ripeness and concentration before vinification is carried out to preserve the variety’s natural freshness and the wine’s elegant structure.
Food & Serving
This is a versatile food wine that pairs beautifully with rich Piedmontese dishes, roasted meats, game, braised beef, mushroom-based recipes, and mature cheeses. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about an hour if opening it young to allow the aromatics and structure to fully unfold.
Producer
Coppo is one of Piedmont’s historic producers and has long been associated with quality, tradition, and a deep commitment to the region’s native grapes. With Pomorosso, the estate helped elevate Barbera’s reputation, and the wine remains one of its most celebrated bottlings, recognized for both its regional authenticity and aging capacity.
