Description
Condrieu Les Cassines by Paul Jaboulet Aîné is a polished expression of Viognier from one of the Rhône’s most admired white-wine appellations. Known for its aromatic intensity, silky texture, and mineral finesse, it offers a distinctly luxurious take on Condrieu’s historic style.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a bright, pale golden hue with subtle green reflections. The nose is expressive and fragrant, often layered with white peach, apricot, pear, citrus blossom, and hints of honeysuckle and spice.
On the palate, Condrieu is prized for its generous yet elegant mouthfeel, bringing ripe stone fruit, floral notes, and a gentle mineral thread together in a smooth, balanced finish. The 2024 vintage is expected to be approachable in youth, while still having enough structure and freshness to develop pleasantly over the next few years.
Production
This wine comes from Condrieu in the northern Rhône, where steep, granite-based slopes and a cool continental climate help preserve freshness while fully ripening Viognier. The parcels for Les Cassines are selected to reflect the finesse and aromatic purity associated with the appellation. Vinification is typically carried out with careful handling to protect the grape’s delicate aromatics, often followed by aging in tank and/or neutral oak to retain fruit expression and texture.
Food & Serving
Serve chilled at around 10–12°C to best showcase its perfume and freshness. It pairs beautifully with grilled sea bass, scallops, lobster, roast chicken, poultry in cream sauce, or refined vegetarian dishes such as asparagus risotto and mushroom tart. Decanting is generally not necessary, though a brief airing in the glass can help the aromas open up.
Producer
Paul Jaboulet Aîné is one of the Rhône Valley’s most respected historic producers, with roots dating back to 1834. Based in Tain-l’Hermitage, the domaine has helped define the reputation of the northern Rhône through benchmark wines from appellations such as Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, and Condrieu. It is widely recognized for combining tradition, precision, and a strong sense of place.
