Description
E. Guigal’s Condrieu La Doriane is a prestigious expression of Viognier from the steep, granite-clad vineyards of France’s northern Rhône. Rich, aromatic and beautifully textured, it represents one of the region’s most celebrated white wines, combining Condrieu’s historic floral character with Guigal’s signature precision and oak craftsmanship.
Tasting Notes
The wine displays a luminous golden colour. Its expressive nose is layered with ripe peach, apricot and pear, alongside violet, honeysuckle and subtle notes of vanilla and toasted spice from oak maturation. On the palate, La Doriane is full-bodied and silky, balancing generous stone-fruit flavours with a refreshing mineral lift and a long, elegant finish.
This is an approachable wine in its youth, but its concentration and structure allow it to develop additional complexity over the next several years when well stored. With age, the fruit and floral aromas can evolve towards honeyed, spicy and gently nutty nuances.
Production
Produced from Viognier grown in the Condrieu appellation, La Doriane reflects the region’s steep, predominantly granite-based slopes, which encourage excellent drainage and contribute a distinctive mineral character. The grapes are carefully harvested at low yields to preserve intensity and aromatic purity. Following gentle pressing, the wine is fermented and matured in oak—traditionally including a significant proportion of new barrels—to build texture and complexity while retaining Viognier’s vibrant perfume.
Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at approximately 10–12°C to allow the wine’s aromas and texture to fully emerge. It pairs especially well with lobster, scallops, grilled prawns, rich fish dishes and roast poultry, as well as creamy sauces and mildly spiced Asian cuisine. Decanting is not essential for a young bottle, though a brief 15–20 minute aeration can help reveal its full aromatic depth.
Producer
Founded in 1945 by Étienne Guigal, E. Guigal has grown into one of the Rhône Valley’s most respected names. Based in Ampuis, the historic heart of Côte-Rôtie, the house is renowned for its meticulous vineyard selection, long élevage and benchmark wines from the northern and southern Rhône. La Doriane is Guigal’s flagship Condrieu, showcasing the estate’s ability to produce a refined, age-worthy interpretation of this distinctive appellation.
