Cloudburst Winery’s Margaret River Chardonnay 2023 is a deeply layered, small-production wine shaped by the rugged beauty of Western Australia. Tasting Notes
The wine shows a bright, radiant golden colour. Its aromatic profile is complex and expressive, with notes of freshly baked brioche, grapefruit zest, yellow peach and the mineral impression of sun-warmed river stones. On the palate, a pronounced saline character recalls a salt-rimmed margarita, while generous fruit, supple texture and well-defined structure create a luxurious yet balanced style. The finish is exceptionally long, leaving layers of citrus, stone fruit and mineral freshness. With its concentration, acidity and texture, the wine should develop beautifully over the next several years, gaining further savoury and nutty complexity with bottle age.

Production
The vineyards lie in Margaret River, close to the Indian Ocean and directly adjoining the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park. The cool maritime influence encourages slow, even ripening and helps preserve the Chardonnay’s aromatic detail and natural freshness. Cloudburst works fully biodynamically, without irrigation and with minimal intervention. Grapes are hand-harvested, then fermented with wild yeasts, allowing the character of the fruit, site and vintage to remain at the centre of the winemaking process.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at around 10–12°C. This richly textured Chardonnay is an excellent match for grilled or roasted seafood, lobster, scallops, roast chicken, pork with a citrus or cream sauce, and mature soft cheeses. It can be enjoyed directly from the bottle, although a short period of aeration in a broad white-wine glass will help reveal its layered aromas and long, mineral finish. Decanting is optional, but 20–30 minutes in a small decanter can benefit the wine in its youth.
