Description

Clos St. Antonin Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2023 is a beautifully composed 100% Grenache from the sandy soils of La Crau, Font du Loup, and La Janasse. Sourced from the Sabon family’s celebrated Châteauneuf-du-Pape heritage, it combines finesse, concentration, and unmistakable southern Rhône character in a wine that already feels remarkably complete.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the generous depth expected of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with a vibrant core of red and black fruit framed by a polished, medium-bodied structure. The nose is lifted and expressive, offering spicy berry fruit, earthy clay notes, savory Provençal garrigue, and a clear peppery edge. On the palate, the wine is clean, focused, and elegant rather than heavy, with ripe tannins and a long, harmonious finish. It is already nuanced and complex, but it has the balance and depth to age gracefully for 15 years or more, developing further layers of spice, earth, and dried herb character over time.

Production
This wine comes from sandy parcels in some of Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s most respected sites, including La Crau, Font du Loup, and La Janasse, where the soils help preserve elegance and aromatic lift. The 2023 vintage is made from 100% Grenache, with partial destemming to retain freshness and texture, followed by 12 months of aging in foudre and demi-muids to build complexity without overpowering the fruit.

Food & Serving
Ideal with roast lamb, grilled duck, Provençal stew, herb-crusted meats, or rich mushroom dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C; decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended if opening young, though it can also be enjoyed with a bit of air straight from the bottle.

Producer
Clos St. Antonin is part of the Sabon family’s winemaking legacy in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, closely associated with Domaine de la Janasse, one of the region’s most respected estates. Under Isabel Sabon’s stewardship, the style emphasizes purity, site expression, and balance, helping reinforce the family’s reputation for producing some of the southern Rhône’s most precise and expressive wines.
