Clos Montblanc, Unic Chardonnay 2024 White

Clos Montblanc Unic Chardonnay 2024 is a standout white from the little-known DO Conca de Barberà in Catalonia, combining local craftsmanship with a more international style. Fermented and matured in oak, it offers a richer, more textured expression of Chardonnay that has helped make it one of Clos Montblanc’s most successful wines.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright golden-yellow hue that hints at its generous, ripe character. The nose is expressive, with plenty of yellow fruit such as peach, ripe pear, and apricot, layered with subtle vanilla, toast, and creamy oak notes. On the palate, it is smooth and rounded, with a creamy texture and a fruit-forward profile supported by balanced freshness. The oak ageing adds depth and a gentle richness without overpowering the wine’s fruit. While enjoyable now for its youthful vibrancy, it should also hold up well over the next few years.

Production
Unic Chardonnay is produced in DO Conca de Barberà, a Catalan region west of Barcelona known for its varied terroir and for being the home of the local Trepat grape. The grapes are manually harvested, then fermented in oak barrels before spending a further four months maturing in the same casks, which adds texture, complexity, and a subtle creamy character to the finished wine.

Food & Serving
This Chardonnay works beautifully with roast chicken, creamy pasta dishes, grilled fish, lobster, and seafood risotto, as well as soft cheeses. Serve it chilled at around 10–12°C. Decanting is not necessary, though a little time in the glass will help reveal its full aroma and creamy oak complexity.

Clos Montblanc was founded in 1988 by the Carbonell Figueras family and has become one of the best-known wineries in DO Conca de Barberà. Named after the historic fortress town of Montblanc, the estate combines respect for regional traditions with a broader range of grape varieties, producing wines and Cava that have helped put this Catalan appellation on the map.
