Sourced from a mosaic of parcels across Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Clos des Papes 2021 reflects a classic southern Rhône terroir of rolled galets, sand and clay-limestone soils that promote both ripeness and finesse. The blend is Grenache-led, supported by Syrah, Mourvèdre and small portions of the appellation’s other permitted varieties, all from old, low-yielding vines. Harvesting is done by hand, with careful selection in the vineyard and at the cellar door to ensure only perfectly healthy, ripe grapes are used. Vinification is traditional: whole berries and gently destemmed fruit are fermented in temperature-controlled vats, with long, gentle macerations to extract fine tannins and aromatic complexity rather than brute power. The wine is then aged in large, neutral foudres, allowing the character of the terroir and vintage to shine without overt oak influence.
