Description
Clos des Fées La Petite Sibérie 2006 is one of the most sought-after wines from Roussillon, combining power, concentration, and exceptional finesse in a single cuvée. Built from old-vine Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Syrah, it has earned a cult reputation for its intense personality and impressive age-worthiness.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep garnet core with evolving brick tones at the rim, reflecting its maturity. The nose is layered and expressive, with notes of ripe dark berries, dried cherries, garrigue, spice, leather, and hints of cocoa, tobacco, and earth.
On the palate, the wine is broad and structured, with rich black fruit, savoury Mediterranean herbs, and polished tannins that have softened beautifully with time. The finish is long and warming, carrying mineral and spicy nuances; 2006 is now in a particularly attractive drinking window, though well-stored bottles may continue to evolve gracefully.
Production
La Petite Sibérie comes from a famously warm, windy, and demanding terroir in the Roussillon, where the dry Mediterranean climate and poor soils naturally limit yields and concentrate flavour. The grapes are typically harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, then vinified with careful extraction to preserve balance and depth, followed by ageing in oak to add complexity and structure.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with slow-cooked lamb, duck confit, game dishes, grilled ribeye, and rich mushroom-based preparations. Serve at around 16-18°C and consider decanting for 30-60 minutes if the bottle has been recently opened, as this can help the aromatics open up fully.
Producer
Clos des Fées was founded by Hervé Bizeul and quickly became one of the benchmark estates in Roussillon, known for producing expressive, terroir-driven wines with remarkable precision. La Petite Sibérie is one of its most celebrated cuvées and has helped cement the estate’s reputation among collectors and critics for crafting wines of rarity, depth, and longevity.
