Tasting Notes
In the glass, Clinet 2021 shows a deep ruby to garnet hue with a vibrant rim, hinting at both concentration and freshness. The nose opens with aromas of dark berries and ripe plum, supported by notes of licorice, cocoa and gentle oak spice, lifted by nuances of mint and a twist of orange zest. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with a sweet core of dark fruit framed by fine-grained, powdery tannins. The texture is silky yet structured, with well-judged oak underlining rather than dominating the fruit. Flavors of black cherry, blackberry and plum are layered with licorice, graphite, mint and subtle citrus peel on the long, oak-tinged finish. Clinet is rooted on Pomerol’s famed plateau in Bordeaux, where a mosaic of clay, gravel and iron-rich subsoils gives Merlot its plush texture and depth, complemented by Cabernet varieties that add backbone and aromatic complexity. The grapes are typically harvested by hand, parcel by parcel, to ensure optimal ripeness and careful selection in a vintage as detailed as 2021. In the cellar, fermentation generally takes place in temperature-controlled vats to preserve freshness and precision, followed by maturation in French oak barrels—often with a significant proportion of new oak—to build structure, integrate tannins and add subtle layers of spice and toast without overshadowing the purity of the fruit.

Serve at 16–18°C (around 60–64°F) to highlight its freshness and complexity. Decant for 1–2 hours in its youth to soften the tannins and open up the bouquet; with more bottle age, a gentle 30–60 minute decant will be sufficient to show the wine at its best.
