Description
Cliff Lede Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District 2013 Magnum is a commanding Napa Valley red that combines power, precision, and remarkable elegance. Sourced from some of Stags Leap District’s most admired sites, it reflects the estate’s Bordeaux-inspired style and the depth that has made Cliff Lede one of California’s most talked-about producers. In magnum format, it offers even greater aging potential and a more graceful evolution over time.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this vintage shows a dense ruby-purple colour with striking concentration. The bouquet is layered and expressive, unfolding with floral notes, crème de cassis, graphite, forest floor, and subtle spice, alongside aromas of blackcurrant, smoked cardamom, cinnamon, and liquorice. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet finely balanced, with flavours of plum, blackberry, blackcurrant, prune, anise, vanilla, dark chocolate, and a hint of green pepper. The texture is polished and long, with the oak kept in the background, allowing the purity of the fruit and the elegance of Stags Leap to shine through. Enjoy now for its richness and detail, or cellar for 10–20 years for further complexity.
Production
The wine is sourced from Poetry Vineyard, Twin Peaks Vineyard, and neighbouring parcels in the Stags Leap District, one of Napa Valley’s most prized terroirs for Cabernet Sauvignon. The blend is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Malbec, and 2% Merlot. It was aged for 21 months in French oak barrels, 75% of them new, giving the wine structure, depth, and refined aromatic complexity while preserving the character of the fruit.
Food & Serving
This Cabernet is a natural partner for grilled ribeye, roast lamb, braised short ribs, venison, or a truffle-rich mushroom dish. It also works beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if opening young, especially to let the wine’s layered aromatics and firm structure fully open up.
Producer
Cliff Lede Vineyards was founded in 2002 in Napa Valley’s Stags Leap District by Cliff Lede, a passionate wine and music enthusiast who brought a bold, detail-driven vision to the estate. Working with leading names such as vineyard consultant David Abreu and winemaker Christopher Tynan, the winery quickly rose into Napa’s top tier and has earned widespread critical acclaim. Known for its high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc, Cliff Lede is now regarded as one of the region’s standout producers.
