Description
Claude Riffault Sancerre Les Chasseignes is a beautifully composed biodynamic Sauvignon Blanc from one of the Loire’s most respected names. It stands out for its balance of purity, texture and finesse, bringing together fresh fruit, floral lift and a distinctly mineral Sancerre character. A wine with real pedigree, it reflects both the precision of modern winemaking and the long-standing reputation of Sancerre as a benchmark for Sauvignon Blanc.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, pale straw-yellow color that hints at its freshness and clarity. The nose is expressive yet refined, offering aromas of fresh fruit alongside delicate floral nuances.
On the palate, the wine is fruity, concentrated and impressively persistent, with a subtle spicy edge that adds depth and complexity. The biodynamic farming and careful élevage lend it both tension and a supple texture, making it enjoyable now while also giving it the structure to develop further over the next few years.
Production
Les Chasseignes is crafted from Sauvignon Blanc grown in the Loire Valley under biodynamic principles, allowing the vineyard’s natural expression to shine through. The grapes are harvested by hand and gently pressed using a long pneumatic pressing process to preserve aromatics and finesse. Fermentation takes place partly in tank and partly in oak barrels, followed by eight months of aging to build texture and complexity without overpowering the wine’s varietal brightness.
Food & Serving
This Sancerre is an excellent match for goat’s cheese, oysters, shellfish, grilled white fish and refined poultry dishes, as well as vegetable-based cuisine with herbs or citrus. Serve it chilled at around 8–10°C to best appreciate its aromatic lift and crisp structure. Decanting is not essential, though a short aeration can help open the wine if serving relatively young.
Producer
Domaine Claude Riffault is a leading biodynamic estate in Sancerre, known for producing precise, terroir-driven wines with depth and elegance. The domaine has earned a strong reputation in the Loire for its thoughtful vineyard work and disciplined winemaking, and it is widely recognized among collectors and critics alike. High scores from major publications such as Robert Parker, Vinous and Wine Spectator further confirm its standing as one of the region’s most impressive producers.
