Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2020 Aluigi Gran Selezione shows a vibrant, luminous ruby core with garnet reflections at the rim, hinting at both concentration and finesse. The nose is beautifully perfumed and layered, with pure red Sangiovese fruit—think wild cherries, ripe red currants and pomegranate—interwoven with notes of violet, rose petals, blood orange zest and a subtle spice lift from the wood. Underneath, delicate hints of dried herbs, tobacco leaf and warm earth add complexity without ever weighing the wine down. On the palate, the wine is full and generous yet remarkably poised. Succulent red cherry and raspberry fruit glide across a silken texture, supported by ultra-fine, polished tannins that give structure without harshness. Production
Aluigi is crafted from 100% Sangiovese grown in the single vineyard Campo ai Peri in Panzano in Chianti, an area prized for its elevation, luminosity and well-draining galestro and alberese soils. These stony Tuscan hillsides yield naturally low yields and concentrated fruit, with the exposure toward Lamole bringing both excellent ripeness and aromatic lift. Grapes are hand-harvested at optimal maturity to preserve freshness and phenolic balance, then carefully sorted to ensure only the best clusters make it into the final wine. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vessels, allowing for a gentle and precise extraction of colour, aroma and tannin. The wine is then aged for two years in smaller barrels followed by a third year in larger casks, a regimen that polishes the tannins and builds complexity while respecting the purity of Sangiovese and the character of the site.

This Gran Selezione is a natural match for refined Tuscan cuisine and elegant, flavourful dishes. Pair it with bistecca alla fiorentina, roast lamb with rosemary and garlic, wild boar ragù, truffle-infused pasta, or aged Pecorino and Parmigiano-Reggiano. Game birds, porcini mushroom risotto and dishes with tomato, herbs and olive oil also complement its bright acidity and savoury depth. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight its aromatic complexity and silky texture.
