Description
Cinciole Aluigi 2019 in magnum is a striking Chianti Classico Gran Selezione that marries purity, finesse and depth in one beautifully sculpted wine. Sourced from carefully selected Sangiovese parcels and bottled in an age-worthy 1.5 L format, it showcases the elegance and precision that have made Le Cinciole a benchmark in Panzano in Chianti. Named “Campo ai Peri,” this Gran Selezione represents the estate’s top expression and has been widely praised for its refinement and character, including a 96/100 score from Antonio Galloni (Vinous).
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2019 Aluigi Gran Selezione shows a luminous, deep ruby color with garnet reflections at the rim, hinting at both concentration and classic Sangiovese typicity. The nose is immediately inviting and layered: sweet pipe tobacco, cedar wood, fresh and dried mint, rose petals, and a tapestry of dried Mediterranean herbs unfold with air, supported by notes of red cherry, wild strawberry, and a subtle earthy, ferrous undertone.
On the palate, the wine is vibrant and finely chiseled, combining precision with a graceful, almost weightless intensity. Juicy red and black cherry, blood orange, and wild berries are framed by silky yet structured tannins and a vivid, mouthwatering acidity that keeps everything beautifully in balance. Tobacco, cedar, and herbal nuances echo on a long, focused finish, with a lingering floral lift. The magnum format and the 2019 vintage’s superb balance give this wine excellent aging potential: it is already compelling now but will evolve gracefully for 10–15+ years, gaining complexity in tertiary notes while maintaining its freshness.
Production
Le Cinciole’s Aluigi Gran Selezione is crafted from Sangiovese vines rooted in the high-altitude hills of Panzano in Chianti, where galestro and alberese soils contribute tension, minerality, and aromatic clarity. The estate is known for organic, low-intervention viticulture, with careful hand-harvesting at optimal ripeness to preserve the grape’s natural acidity and purity of fruit. After rigorous selection in the vineyard and cellar, the wine undergoes a traditional vinification with temperature-controlled fermentation and a long maceration on the skins to extract fine tannins and complexity. The 2019 vintage matured for two years in large 25 hL oak casks, allowing slow, gentle oxygen exchange without overt wood imprint, followed by an additional year of refinement in cement, which enhances texture and preserves the wine’s vibrant, precise character before bottling in magnum.
Food & Serving
This Gran Selezione is a superb partner for refined Tuscan-inspired cuisine: think bistecca alla fiorentina, grilled lamb chops with rosemary, wild boar ragù over pappardelle, or roasted game birds. It also shines with mushroom risotto, aged Pecorino Toscano, and other firm, mature cheeses that can stand up to its structure. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight its aromatic complexity and natural freshness. In magnum, decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended in youth to let the aromatics blossom and the tannins soften; older bottles will require a more delicate, shorter decant mainly to remove sediment.
Producer
Le Cinciole is a small, highly regarded estate in Panzano in Chianti, in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone, where elevations and stony soils naturally favor elegant, terroir-driven Sangiovese. Over the years, the estate has become a reference point for authentic, refined Chianti Classico, championing organic farming and a restrained, traditional style that privileges freshness, energy, and site expression over power. The Aluigi Gran Selezione represents one of Le Cinciole’s pinnacle bottlings, and critical acclaim—such as Antonio Galloni’s 96/100 for the 2019—has reinforced the winery’s reputation as a leading voice in modern, estate-grown Chianti Classico of real character and longevity.
