Description
Cignomoro’s Primitivo di Manduria 2022 is a bold, sun-drenched expression of Puglia, crafted with clear intent from one of the region’s most distinctive estates. Sourced from the famous red soils between Manduria and Carosino, it captures the warmth of the southern coast while showing the precision of a modern, family-run winery.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine typically shows a deep, concentrated ruby color with hints of purple at the rim. The nose is generous and ripe, often opening with dark cherry, plum, blackberry, and Mediterranean spice, supported by subtle oak tones from maturation in French barriques.
On the palate, it is likely full-bodied and plush, with ripe fruit, smooth tannins, and a rounded, warming finish. The barrique aging adds structure and complexity without overpowering the fruit, giving the wine good immediate appeal as well as the potential to develop further over the next few years.
Production
Cignomoro works deliberately with Puglia’s terroir, choosing the red soils of the Manduria area for their ability to produce expressive, characterful Primitivo. The grapes are hand-harvested, then fermented at controlled temperature to preserve freshness and purity of fruit. Maceration takes place in both stainless steel tanks and barriques, followed by further maturation in French oak barriques, 65% new and 35% used, to build texture and depth.
Food & Serving
This Primitivo di Manduria is a natural match for grilled meats, slow-braised beef, lamb, rich tomato-based pasta dishes, and aged cheeses. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if you want to soften the wine and bring out its full aromatic range.
Producer
Cignomoro is a family-owned producer in Puglia that has built its reputation on making wines with strong regional identity and modern precision. By focusing on carefully chosen vineyard sites and combining traditional values with contemporary winemaking, the estate has become known for producing some of the area’s most compelling wines, especially from Primitivo.
