Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2018 Clos Florentin shows a deep ruby core with purple reflections, signaling both concentration and youth. The nose opens gradually, moving from initial restraint into a fragrant mix of violets and dried flowers, red and black berries, plum and raspberry, with subtle notes of cracked pepper, smoked meat, and a hint of graphite and dried herbs beneath. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, taut and focused rather than opulent, with finely grained tannins providing a firm backbone. Ripe plum and forest-berry fruit intertwine with savory spice, black olive, and a touch of cocoa, all carried by fresh, well-integrated acidity. Production
Clos Florentin is a walled vineyard in the heart of Saint-Joseph on the granite slopes of the northern Rhône’s left bank, where poor, rocky soils and steep exposures naturally limit yields and intensify flavor. The Syrah is hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, with careful selection in the vineyard and at the winery to ensure only pristine fruit makes it into the final wine. Vinification typically involves traditional methods: gentle crushing, fermentation with indigenous yeasts, and a thoughtful use of whole clusters depending on the vintage to enhance structure and aromatic lift. The wine is then aged in French oak—mostly older barrels and larger casks—to preserve the purity of fruit and the character of the terroir, before a minimal-intervention bottling.

This Saint-Joseph shines alongside dishes that echo its savory, peppery complexity: think roast lamb with herbs, grilled duck breast, game birds, charcuterie, or a classic beef stew.
