Château Tour Saint Christophe, Saint Émilion 2021

Château Tour Saint Christophe 2021 is a refined Saint-Émilion red from one of the appellation’s striking hillside estates. Built around Merlot and Cabernet Franc, it combines the generosity of ripe Bordeaux fruit with the mineral character and structure of the region’s limestone-rich terroir. The property has gained renewed prominence since its acquisition and restoration by the Kwok family in the early 2010s.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-purple in appearance, the wine opens with aromas of black cherry, blackberry and plum, alongside violet, subtle spice and a delicate hint of cedar. On the palate, the 2021 vintage is fresh and finely structured, with supple tannins, bright acidity and layers of dark fruit, cocoa and mineral nuance. Its balanced profile makes it approachable in its youth, while the concentration and tannic framework suggest a further 8–12 years of development under good cellar conditions.

Production
The estate’s vineyards are planted on steep, terraced slopes characterized by limestone and clay soils, which provide both drainage and a pronounced mineral freshness. Grapes are carefully selected and harvested by parcel, allowing the winery to preserve the individual character of each site. Fermentation and maturation are carried out with a focus on gentle extraction and precision, including aging in oak to add texture and complexity without overwhelming the fruit.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C after allowing the bottle to come to temperature. A brief decant of around 30–60 minutes can help open the wine, particularly when enjoyed in its first few years. Its polished structure pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck, venison and hearty mushroom dishes, as well as mature hard cheeses.

Since the Kwok family acquired the estate in 2012, significant investment has been made in the vineyards, cellar and terraces, helping to elevate the château’s profile among modern Saint-Émilion producers. The estate is now regarded as one of the appellation’s notable rising properties and was included among the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé estates in the 2022 classification.
