Description
Château Talbot 2019 is a beautifully poised Saint-Julien red from one of Bordeaux’s most historic and admired estates. Known for its silky tannins, refined structure, and impressive depth, it offers immediate charm today as well as the promise of graceful evolution in the cellar.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby core with polished, classic Bordeaux concentration. Aromas of blackcurrant, plum, cedar, tobacco, and a subtle iron-tinged savory note unfold with air, giving it both richness and lift.
The palate is smooth and finely textured, with Cabernet Sauvignon bringing cassis, dark fruit, and firm backbone, while the supporting blend adds flesh and balance. The tannins are supple yet persistent, making the wine enjoyable young, though it is built to develop greater complexity over the next 10 to 20 years, gaining more cedar, cigar box, and earthy nuance with time.
Production
Château Talbot comes from the heart of Saint-Julien, on an exceptional site close to the Gironde estuary, where the estate’s 102 hectares sit among some of the appellation’s most esteemed neighbors. The terroir is ideally suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, producing wines with finesse, balance, and aromatic precision. Harvesting and vinification are handled with great care by the Talbot team, under the guidance of experienced vineyard and cellar professionals, with expert consultation to preserve purity, structure, and elegance in the final wine.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent partner for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game birds, or mushroom-based dishes, as well as hard cheeses with character. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the aromatic layers and silky texture to open fully.
Producer
Château Talbot is the largest estate in Saint-Julien and one of the appellation’s most recognizable names, with a history rooted in the legacy of Connétable Talbot, after whom it was named. Classified as a Fourth Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, the château has been under the stewardship of the Bignon-Cordier family for generations and continues to be a benchmark for elegant, consistently polished Saint-Julien wines. Its reputation is built on scale, pedigree, and a reliably refined style.
