R de Rieussec is the dry white wine of Château Rieussec, one of Sauternes’ most respected estates and a Premier Cru Classé since 1855. Produced in the 2021 vintage, it offers a fresher, more vibrant expression of the property, combining Bordeaux’s classic white-grape varieties with the elegance and precision associated with the Rothschild-owned estate.

Tasting Notes
Bright and pale gold in appearance, the 2021 R de Rieussec opens with inviting aromas of citrus blossom, white peach and fresh pear, complemented by subtle herbal and mineral nuances. On the palate, it is crisp and energetic, with flavours of lemon, green apple and stone fruit balanced by a rounded texture and a clean, refreshing finish. The vintage’s natural freshness makes this an especially lively release, while its structure allows it to develop added texture and complexity over the next few years. It is enjoyable young, but should gain further nuance with careful cellaring in a cool, dark environment.

Production
The wine is produced in the gravelly, sandy and clay-rich soils of Château Rieussec in the Sauternes area, a terroir better known for producing exceptional sweet wines but also well suited to expressive dry whites. The grapes are harvested with care to preserve freshness and aromatic clarity, then gently pressed and fermented under controlled conditions. The wine is matured to integrate its fruit, acidity and texture before bottling.

Food & Serving
Serve chilled at approximately 10–12°C. R de Rieussec is a versatile partner for oysters, grilled prawns, ceviche, sushi and fresh fish, while its rounded texture also complements roast chicken, goat’s cheese and lightly spiced dishes. Decanting is not essential when young, although a brief decant of 15–20 minutes can help open its aromas.
