Réserve de Pichon Comtesse 2022 is the second wine from Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, one of Pauillac’s most celebrated estates and a historic 2ème Cru Classé. It offers a remarkably polished introduction to the château’s style, combining power, finesse, and unmistakable Bordeaux character in a more approachable form.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, inviting colour that hints at the wine’s concentration and structure. The nose is classically Bordeaux, with layered aromas of blackcurrant, ripe plum, dark chocolate, pencil shaving, and a subtle touch of tobacco. On the palate, the wine is structured yet beautifully balanced, with silky tannins, bright freshness, and impressive length. The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc brings both depth and precision, and the wine already drinks well if given time to breathe. It also has excellent ageing potential, with 10–15 years ahead to gain further elegance, complexity, and harmony.

Production
The 2022 Réserve de Pichon Comtesse is made from 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. It was aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, 40% of which were new, adding finesse, texture, and subtle oak complexity to the wine. The wine reflects the gravelly terroir of Pauillac, where Cabernet Sauvignon thrives and gives structure, freshness, and aromatic precision. Careful harvesting and precise vinification at the estate ensure that the fruit remains pure and expressive while preserving the hallmark elegance of the château’s style.

Food & Serving
This wine is an excellent match for grilled or braised beef, lamb, game dishes, and mature cheeses. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if opening it young, as this will help soften the tannins and allow the aromas to fully unfold.
