Description

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2016 is a beautifully poised Pauillac that combines the power of Cabernet Sauvignon with the supple, seductive style that has made this estate so admired. One of the historic names of Bordeaux, Pichon Comtesse has long been celebrated for its elegance, precision, and aromatic finesse, and the 2016 vintage is widely regarded as one of its modern benchmarks.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep, intense garnet-purple color. The nose is wonderfully expressive, unfolding with blackcurrant, plum, violets, licorice, sweet tobacco, cigar box, graphite, and subtle earthy notes.\n\nOn the palate, it is full-bodied yet refined, with a seamless texture, bright acidity, and layers of concentrated dark fruit wrapped in polished tannins. There is impressive depth and drive through the finish, with a long, mineral-tinged persistence that suggests exceptional aging potential. This is a wine built for the long haul and should continue to evolve gracefully for decades.

Production
The estate sits in the southern part of Pauillac on deep gravel soils close to the Gironde estuary, a privileged terroir that favors Cabernet Sauvignon in particular. The 2016 blend is Cabernet Sauvignon-led, supported by Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and the fruit is vinified parcel by parcel in the modern three-level cellar, allowing each lot to be handled according to its specific character before aging in oak.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for prime rib, lamb, beef Wellington, duck breast, or game dishes such as venison, as well as truffle-based recipes and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young; older bottles may only need a brief decant to remove sediment.

Producer
Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande has roots stretching back to 1689 and became a separate estate in the mid-19th century after the Pichon family division. Classified as a Second Growth in 1855, it rose to even greater prominence under Madame May-Eliane de Lencquesaing, who restored and expanded the property before its sale to the Rouzaud family in 2007. Today it remains one of Pauillac’s most revered estates, known for wines that unite power, perfume, and refinement.
