Description

Château Palmer 2023 is a refined Margaux red from one of Bordeaux’s most admired estates, celebrated for combining the elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon with the depth and silkiness associated with the appellation. Its history stretches back to the 17th century, while its modern identity is closely linked to the British General Charles Palmer, who acquired the estate in 1814 and helped establish its international reputation.

Tasting Notes
The 2023 vintage presents a deep ruby to garnet colour, often with a strikingly youthful intensity. On the nose, it reveals the classic Margaux profile: fragrant dark berries, blackcurrant, violet and subtle spice, with hints of cedar and carefully integrated oak. The palate is concentrated yet poised, offering ripe blackberry and cassis flavours supported by finely polished tannins, fresh acidity and a long, savoury finish. As a young wine, Château Palmer 2023 will benefit from decanting and further bottle age. Its balance, structure and depth suggest excellent cellaring potential, with the wine expected to develop greater aromatic complexity and softness over the next several decades when stored in suitable conditions.

Production
The estate’s vineyards lie on the gravel-rich plateau of Margaux, where excellent drainage and deep gravel soils encourage the vines to develop concentration while retaining freshness. Château Palmer’s red wines are built around a classic Bordeaux blend, led by Cabernet Sauvignon and complemented by Merlot and smaller proportions of other traditional varieties. Grapes are harvested selectively by parcel and vinified with careful attention to each vineyard plot, before maturation in oak to add texture and complexity without overshadowing the wine’s floral, fruit-driven character. Under the direction of Thomas Duroux, the estate has continued to advance its sustainable and environmentally conscious approach to vineyard management.

Food & Serving
Serve Château Palmer 2023 at approximately 16–18°C. It is a natural match for premium dishes such as roast beef, saddle of lamb, venison, duck breast and beef tenderloin, while its refined structure also complements earthy preparations with mushrooms or truffle. Decant for around two to three hours when enjoying it young; older bottles should be decanted more gently, primarily to separate the wine from any sediment.

Producer
Château Palmer is one of the landmark estates of the Margaux appellation and was classified as a Third Growth in the 1855 Classification of Bordeaux. After Charles Palmer acquired the property in 1814, he invested heavily in the estate and helped bring its wines to wider prominence. Today, Château Palmer is respected for its consistently elegant, distinctive wines and for its commitment to sustainable development. Since Thomas Duroux took responsibility for the estate in 2004, the château has continued to refine both its winemaking and its careful stewardship of the surrounding environment.
