Description

Château Palmer is one of Margaux’s most iconic names, celebrated for producing wines that rival the very best in Bordeaux. The 2011 vintage stands out for its remarkable purity, concentration, and finesse, showing the estate’s ability to excel even in a challenging year. Historically, Palmer has been regarded as a true benchmark of the appellation, with a reputation built on both prestige and consistency.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine is deeply colored with an opaque blue-purple hue, hinting at its intensity and depth. The nose is layered and expressive, with aromas of licorice, truffles, camphor, spring flowers, black raspberries, and blackcurrants. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with superb concentration, impressive precision, and a long, lingering finish that speaks to both power and elegance. This is a wine with excellent aging potential. While already impressive, it will reward patience and continue to develop greater complexity over many years, gaining tertiary notes of earth, spice, and forest floor with time in bottle.

Production
The 2011 Château Palmer comes from tiny yields of around 20 hectoliters per hectare, which helped create the wine’s exceptional concentration. The final blend is 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, with only 55% of total production making it into the grand vin after strict selection. Today, the estate is farmed biodynamically, a transformation that reflects Palmer’s commitment to biodiversity, precision, and an increasingly natural approach to viticulture and vinification.

Food & Serving
This is a classic Bordeaux for refined dishes such as roast lamb, duck breast, beef tenderloin, venison, or truffle-infused mushroom dishes. Serve it at around 16–18°C to show its full aromatic range and structure. Decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended, especially if enjoyed in its youth, to allow the wine to open gradually and reveal its full complexity.

Producer
Château Palmer has a long and romantic history dating back to 1814, when the estate was acquired by British General Charles Palmer. Located in Margaux, it is widely considered the great rival to Château Margaux in the commune and has earned a place among Bordeaux’s most revered estates. Under the leadership of Thomas Duroux since 2006, the château has taken an ambitious biodynamic path and further strengthened its global reputation for producing powerful, age-worthy, and highly distinctive wines.
