Description

Château Mouton Rothschild 1982 in magnum format is a true icon of Bordeaux, combining First Growth pedigree with the added prestige and longevity that only a large format can deliver. Celebrated for its depth, complexity and legendary status, it represents one of the great expressions of Pauillac and one of the most sought-after wines in the world.

Tasting Notes
Deeply coloured and still remarkably vibrant for the vintage, this wine shows the classic grandeur of Mouton Rothschild with layer upon layer of fruit, spice and savoury complexity. The bouquet unfolds with crème de cassis, floral notes, cedar, spice box and the refined noble character that has made the 1982 one of Bordeaux’s most admired vintages. On the palate it is full-bodied, powerful and beautifully structured, yet with a remarkable sense of purity and finesse. The tannins remain elegant and firm, while the finish is exceptionally long and multi-dimensional. In magnum, the wine has evolved even more slowly, and it still has significant aging potential ahead, especially for collectors seeking a wine with decades of life remaining.

Production
Château Mouton Rothschild sits on the Plateau de Mouton in Pauillac, where deep gravel soils, excellent drainage and the Atlantic-influenced climate of Médoc create ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard is planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot contributing to the final blend depending on the character of the vintage. Harvesting is done with meticulous selection, and vinification is carried out with exacting precision to preserve concentration, aromatic complexity and balance.

Food & Serving
This is a wine for classic, luxurious dishes such as roast lamb, beef Wellington, venison, duck breast or mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant carefully; while the wine is now entering a superb drinking window, an older magnum may benefit from gentle decanting shortly before service to separate any sediment and allow the aromas to open gradually.

Producer
Founded in Pauillac in 1853 by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, Château Mouton Rothschild became one of Bordeaux’s most influential estates under Baron Philippe de Rothschild, who modernized the property, pioneered château bottling and introduced the artist-designed label tradition. Elevated to Premier Cru Classé in 1973, the estate is now run by the Rothschild family’s next generation and remains a benchmark for precision, prestige and excellence in Bordeaux.
