Description

Château Margaux 2003 in double magnum format is a truly rare expression of one of Bordeaux’s most iconic First Growth estates. The 2003 vintage is known for its extraordinary concentration and sensual texture, while the large-format bottle offers especially graceful aging and remarkable cellar appeal. A historic name since the 16th century, Château Margaux remains a benchmark for elegance, finesse, and prestige.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep purple hue, hinting at the wine’s concentration and richness. The bouquet is intensely layered, with spring flowers, blackcurrant, camphor, melted licorice, and toasted notes of pain grillé, all lifted by a striking freshness. On the palate, the wine is velvety and expansive, with ripe cassis, subtle spice, vanilla, and violet weaving through a wine of impressive depth and length. Despite its power, it remains finely balanced and surprisingly delicate in feel. This is a wine built for the long haul and should continue to evolve beautifully for decades, with Robert Parker anticipating maturity from 2011 to 2035.

Production
The estate’s vineyards are planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and small amounts of Cabernet Franc, on terroir that has made Margaux one of the most admired names in Bordeaux. Only around 90 of the 100 hectares available are used for vines, with a clear focus on preserving mature plant material and maintaining the quality of old vines. The grapes are harvested with the aim of preserving precision and freshness, and the vinification is designed to capture the estate’s hallmark blend of intensity and elegance. The result is a wine with exceptional structure, aromatic complexity, and a long, refined finish.

Food & Serving
Best enjoyed with fine dishes such as beef tenderloin, lamb rack, duck breast, truffle-infused preparations, or aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16-18°C and, given its age and large format, consider opening well in advance or decanting gently to allow the wine to fully express its aromatic complexity. For very old bottles, a careful decant just before serving is recommended.

Producer
Château Margaux is one of Bordeaux’s most legendary estates and has long stood as a symbol of refinement and class. Its history reaches back to the 16th century, and it has been recognized for centuries as one of the world’s greatest wines, officially ranked as a First Growth in the 1855 classification. Today the estate is owned and led by Corinne Mentzelopoulos, who has guided Château Margaux for more than 30 years with support from a dedicated team. Under her stewardship, the château has reinforced its position at the top of Bordeaux, earning global acclaim for wines that combine power, elegance, and extraordinary aging potential.
