Château Malescot St. Exupery, Margaux 2020

Château Malescot St. Exupéry 2020 is a refined Margaux red from one of the appellation’s historic classified growth estates. Recognised as a Troisième Cru Classé in the 1855 Classification, it combines the elegance and aromatic perfume associated with Margaux with the concentration and structure of the outstanding 2020 vintage.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby to garnet in colour, the wine opens with expressive aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, complemented by violets, cedar, graphite and subtle spice. The palate is full yet poised, offering layers of ripe dark fruit, polished tannins and fresh acidity. Hints of dark chocolate, tobacco and mineral complexity emerge on the long, persistent finish. With its balance of concentration, freshness and firm but refined structure, this is a wine with considerable ageing potential. It can be enjoyed from around 2027, while further development in the bottle should reward careful cellaring through the 2030s and beyond.

Production
The vineyards of Château Malescot St. Exupéry are planted on the deep gravel soils characteristic of Margaux, which provide excellent drainage and encourage elegant, concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon. Grapes are generally harvested by hand parcel by parcel at optimum ripeness, then carefully sorted before fermentation in temperature-controlled vats. The wine is matured in French oak, allowing its fruit, floral character and tannic structure to integrate with time.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C after allowing the bottle to breathe. Decanting for approximately one to two hours is recommended when serving the wine young, while older bottles should be decanted carefully and briefly if needed. Its structure and savoury depth pair particularly well with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck, venison, mushroom dishes and mature hard cheeses.

Its status as a Third Growth in the 1855 Classification reflects its long-standing reputation, while the estate’s modern renaissance is associated with the Zuger family, who acquired it in the 1950s and invested in restoring its vineyards and winemaking facilities. Today, the château is respected for producing classic, aromatic Margaux wines with impressive finesse, depth and longevity.
