Description
Château Malartic-Lagravière 2021 is a polished Pessac-Léognan red from one of Bordeaux’s most respected estates, combining classed-growth pedigree with the distinctive mineral edge of the Graves. Built on a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it offers the structure, freshness and depth that have made this château a benchmark in the appellation.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine typically shows a deep ruby colour with bright purple reflections in youth. The nose is expressive and refined, with blackcurrant, blackberry, ripe plum and graphite layered over hints of cedar, tobacco, violet and subtle spice.
The palate is medium to full-bodied, with firm yet well-integrated tannins, fresh acidity and a balanced core of dark fruit, mineral notes and savoury complexity. The finish is long and elegant, with the blend’s Cabernet backbone suggesting excellent cellaring potential over the next 10–15 years, and likely longer in a well-kept cellar.
Production
The vineyards of Château Malartic-Lagravière are rooted in the gravelly soils of Pessac-Léognan, where excellent drainage and the maritime influence of Bordeaux help preserve freshness and aromatic precision. The estate’s parcels are carefully managed and harvested by hand to ensure optimal ripeness and fruit selection. Vinification is carried out with a focus on precision and gentle extraction, allowing each grape variety to contribute its best qualities to the final blend.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent partner for roasted lamb, beef fillet, duck breast, game birds and dishes with earthy or truffle-rich sauces. It also works beautifully with hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Manchego. Serve at 16–18°C; decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended if drinking young to allow the wine to खुलen and reveal its full aromatic complexity.
Producer
Château Malartic-Lagravière is one of the historic estates of Pessac-Léognan, with origins dating back to the 18th century. Classified as a Grand Cru Classé de Graves, it has long been recognised for producing elegant, age-worthy wines that express both the gravelly terroir and the refined style of the appellation. In modern times, the estate has earned a strong reputation for quality, consistency and a meticulous approach to vineyard and cellar work.
