Description

Château Malartic-Lagravière Blanc 2017 is a refined white Bordeaux from one of Pessac-Léognan’s distinguished Cru Classé estates. Combining the freshness and aromatic lift of Sauvignon Blanc with the richness of Sémillon, it offers a polished expression of the appellation’s gravelly terroir, with both immediate appeal and excellent cellaring potential.

Tasting Notes
The wine has a bright, pale-golden appearance. Its aromatic profile combines citrus zest, white peach, pear and floral notes with subtle hints of vanilla, toast and wet stone from barrel maturation. On the palate, it is concentrated yet finely balanced, with lively acidity, a creamy texture and a long, mineral finish. The 2017 vintage is drinking well now, but should continue to develop added honeyed and toasty complexity over the next several years when properly stored.

Production
The Malartic-Lagravière vineyards lie on the gravelly soils characteristic of Pessac-Léognan, with underlying clay and limestone contributing both drainage and freshness. The white grapes are harvested carefully at optimum ripeness before being gently pressed and fermented, in part, in oak barrels. Maturation on the lees with regular bâtonnage helps build texture while preserving the wine’s vibrant fruit and mineral character.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at approximately 10–12°C. It pairs beautifully with grilled or poached fish, shellfish, scallops, lobster and roasted poultry, while its freshness also complements creamy sauces and mildly seasoned Asian dishes. Decanting is not essential, but a brief 15–20 minutes in a carafe can help open the wine when served young; older bottles are best poured gently to preserve their aromatic nuance.

Producer
Château Malartic-Lagravière is a historic estate in Léognan and one of the few Bordeaux properties classified for both red and white wines in the 1953 Graves classification. The château takes its name from Admiral Anne-Joseph-Hippolyte de Maurès de Malartic, a former owner, and has long been recognised for producing elegant, structured wines from its well-sited gravel terraces. Today, the estate is regarded as one of the leading producers of both red and white Pessac-Léognan.
