Château l'Evangile, Pomerol 2021

Château L'Évangile 2021 is a refined Pomerol from one of the appellation’s most respected estates, known for combining the richness of Merlot with the structure and aromatic lift of Cabernet Franc. Situated on a prestigious gravelly terroir between Château Pétrus and Château Cheval Blanc, L'Évangile has long held an important place among the Right Bank’s finest wines.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-purple in appearance, the 2021 opens with aromas of ripe blackberry, black cherry and plum, complemented by violet, cedar, graphite and subtle spice. The palate is elegant and focused rather than overtly powerful, with silky tannins, fresh acidity and layers of dark fruit, cocoa and mineral nuance. Its balance and structure give it excellent medium- to long-term aging potential, with further complexity expected after several years in bottle.

Production
The estate’s vineyards lie on a varied terroir of gravel, clay and sand, with the gravelly soils contributing finesse and aromatic detail while the clay helps retain freshness and supports the Merlot vines. The blend is led by Merlot, supported by Cabernet Franc and a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, with the exact proportions varying by vintage. In 2021, careful selection and gentle vinification were especially important in preserving the freshness and precision of the fruit, followed by maturation in French oak.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C after allowing the wine to come gradually to cellar temperature. It pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck, venison and richly flavoured mushroom dishes, as well as mature hard cheeses. Decant for around one to two hours when serving young; older bottles should be handled more gently and may need only a short airing.
