Château l'Evangile, Pomerol 2020

Château L’Évangile 2020 is a distinguished Pomerol red, combining the appellation’s renowned Merlot richness with the structure and aromatic lift of Cabernet Franc. Produced by one of the Right Bank’s most respected estates, this vintage reflects both the château’s long history—dating back to the 18th century—and the exceptional quality of the 2020 growing season.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby to purple in appearance, the wine opens with expressive aromas of ripe black plum, blackberry, violet and dark cherry, complemented by subtle notes of cedar, spice and cocoa. On the palate, it is full-bodied and layered, with concentrated dark fruit, finely integrated tannins and a fresh mineral character that brings balance to its richness. Hints of graphite, tobacco and dark chocolate emerge on the long finish. Although approachable with decanting, Château L’Évangile 2020 has the structure and concentration to develop beautifully over the next 15–25 years, gaining further complexity and silkiness with bottle age.

Production
The château’s vineyards lie on a varied mix of gravel and clay soils in Pomerol, a combination that supports both depth and freshness. Grapes are harvested by hand in small parcels and carefully sorted before fermentation, allowing each plot to express its individual character. The wine is vinified with gentle extraction and matured in French oak, including new barrels, to add texture and spice while preserving the purity of the fruit and the identity of the terroir.

Food & Serving
This powerful yet refined Pomerol is an excellent match for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, venison and other richly flavoured game dishes. It also pairs well with truffle-based preparations, mushroom sauces and mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C. Decant for approximately 1–2 hours when drinking young; older bottles should be handled carefully and decanted briefly, if at all, to avoid losing delicate aromas.

Since 1990, it has been part of the portfolio of Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), whose investment has supported meticulous vineyard work and cellar improvements.
