Château l'Evangile, Pomerol 2018

Château L’Évangile 2018 is a refined Pomerol red from one of the appellation’s most respected estates. Combining the depth and silkiness associated with Merlot-dominated Pomerol with the structure of Cabernet Franc, this vintage offers both immediate appeal and excellent long-term cellaring potential.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby to purple in colour, the wine opens with expressive aromas of blackberries, ripe plum and black cherry, layered with violet, dark chocolate, cedar and subtle spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and concentrated, yet remarkably polished, with supple tannins, well-integrated oak and a fresh mineral character that brings balance to the generous fruit. The 2018 vintage is already enjoyable with decanting, but its structure and concentration suggest considerable aging potential. It should develop greater complexity over the next 10–20 years when properly stored.

Production
The château’s vineyards lie on the distinctive soils of Pomerol, where gravel, sand and clay contribute both drainage and richness. The blend is centred on Merlot, supported by Cabernet Franc, with the fruit harvested by hand at optimum ripeness. Careful parcel-by-parcel vinification is followed by maturation in French oak, allowing the wine to develop texture, aromatic depth and a harmonious finish.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C after decanting for approximately 1–2 hours, particularly while the wine is young. Its ripe fruit, supple structure and savoury depth make it an excellent partner for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, venison, duck with a rich sauce, or mature hard cheeses. With further bottle age, more delicate preparations and earthy dishes such as mushroom risotto will complement its developing tertiary notes.

Château L’Évangile is a historic Pomerol estate whose origins date back to the 18th century. Located close to Château Pétrus and Château Cheval Blanc, it occupies a prestigious position within the appellation and has long been recognised for producing elegant, powerful wines. Since 1990, the estate has been part of the Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite group, which has supported significant investment in the vineyards and winery while preserving the château’s distinctive Pomerol identity.
