Tasting Notes
At 40 years of age, the wine can still show an impressively saturated ruby-black color, a sign of just how slowly it evolves. The bouquet opens with cassis, dark berries, pencil shavings, and earthy notes of loamy soil, gradually revealing more complexity with air. On the palate, it is full-bodied, broad-shouldered, and muscular, with abundant ripe fruit wrapped in powdery tannins and a rich, concentrated core. The style is expansive rather than sharply acidic, and it benefits greatly from extended aeration. Production
Léoville Las Cases is located in the northernmost corner of Saint-Julien, directly bordering Pauillac, with vineyards that benefit from a terroir often compared to the greatest sites of the Médoc. Much of the fruit comes from the famed l’Enclos parcels, planted with old vines—many around 50 to 80 years of age—on gravelly soils that help produce wines of great depth, structure, and longevity. The estate is known for meticulous vineyard work and careful vinification aimed at preserving the natural intensity and classic character of the fruit.

Food & Serving
This is a wine that shines best with serious food: roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, ribeye, venison, duck breast, or dishes with truffle and mushroom accents. Decanting is strongly recommended, especially for mature bottles, to allow the bouquet to open fully; serving at around 16–18°C is ideal. With a wine of this scale and age, a few hours in a decanter can make a remarkable difference.
