Château Léoville Barton 2021

Château Léoville Barton 2021 is a refined and classically styled Saint-Julien from one of Bordeaux’s most respected estates. Combining the château’s signature Cabernet Sauvignon-driven structure with remarkable freshness and concentration, it is a compelling vintage that balances immediate appeal with excellent ageing potential. Château Léoville Barton has been classified as a Deuxième Cru Classé in the 1855 Classification of Bordeaux.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-purple in colour, the wine opens with expressive aromas of blackcurrant and ripe plum, complemented by subtle notes of pencil shavings, menthol and finely judged spice. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, deep and impressively concentrated, with layers of dark fruit supported by lively acidity and a polished, sweetly textured tannic structure. The 2021 vintage shows the freshness and precision associated with a cooler Bordeaux growing season, while retaining the depth expected from Léoville Barton. It is already showing beautifully in the glass, but further bottle ageing will bring greater volume, complexity and integration. Enjoy from around 2027, with the potential to develop gracefully for two decades or more under suitable cellaring conditions.

Production
The vineyards lie on the gravelly soils of Saint-Julien, where deep gravel deposits over clay and sand provide excellent drainage while retaining enough moisture to support the vines during the growing season. The blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Grapes are carefully harvested at optimum ripeness and traditionally vinified to preserve freshness, structure and varietal character, followed by maturation in French oak before bottling.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for roast beef, lamb, venison and other richly flavoured red meats, it also pairs well with braised dishes, beef fillet, duck and mature hard cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for 1–2 hours when drinking young to open the wine’s aromatic layers and soften its youthful tannins; older bottles should be decanted carefully to remove any sediment.
