Château l'Eglise Clinet, Pomerol 2014

Château L'Église-Clinet 2014 is a refined and powerful Pomerol prized for its remarkable complexity, depth and gastronomic character. Produced from the tiny 4.5-hectare estate of Denis Durantou, it represents one of the appellation’s most sought-after and distinctive wines, combining concentration with the elegance expected from top Pomerol.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep ruby colour with garnet reflections. Its expressive nose reveals layers of ripe dark berries, black cherry, plum and cassis, complemented by subtle floral tones, spice and discreet hints of oak. On the palate, it is full-bodied and richly textured, with polished tannins, vibrant freshness and impressive depth. Dark fruit flavours are joined by notes of cocoa, earth and savoury spice, leading to a long, persistent finish. The 2014 vintage offers an appealing balance between richness and freshness, making the wine enjoyable now with decanting while also giving it considerable cellaring potential. Properly stored, it should continue to develop gracefully over the next decade or longer.

Production
The estate covers just 4.5 hectares in Pomerol, where the distinctive clay-rich soils help produce wines of depth, structure and aromatic intensity. Grapes are harvested carefully from the small domaine and fermented under controlled temperatures to preserve fruit character and achieve a refined extraction. The wine is then matured for 18 months in French barriques, approximately 30% of which are new, adding well-integrated spice and structure without overshadowing the fruit.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for refined, richly flavoured dishes such as roast lamb, beef fillet, venison, duck, beef Wellington and mushroom-based preparations. It also works beautifully with mature hard cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for around 1–2 hours before serving, particularly if enjoyed in its youth, to allow the wine’s layered aromas and texture to fully emerge.
