Château Latour, Pauillac Les Forts de Latour CC 2019

Les Forts de Latour 2019 is the distinguished second wine of Château Latour, one of Bordeaux’s most historic and respected estates. Produced in Pauillac from carefully selected estate-grown grapes, it combines the château’s hallmark structure and depth with an approachability that makes it enjoyable earlier than the Grand Vin. The estate has been classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé since the 1855 classification.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby to garnet in colour, the 2019 vintage opens with expressive aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, complemented by cedar, graphite, violet and subtle spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and finely structured, with concentrated dark fruit, fresh acidity and polished tannins. Mineral notes and a long, savoury finish add complexity and precision. This is a powerful yet balanced Pauillac with excellent ageing potential. It can be enjoyed after a little aeration now, while further bottle development over the next 10–15 years should bring greater softness and tertiary complexity.

Production
The wine is made from grapes grown in Château Latour’s historic Pauillac vineyards, where well-drained gravel soils over clay and sand help produce wines of concentration, freshness and distinctive mineral character. The fruit is harvested by hand and carefully selected before fermentation in temperature-controlled vats. It is then matured in French oak, allowing the wine to develop complexity while preserving the purity of its fruit and the firm, refined structure associated with the estate.

Food & Serving
A natural match for grilled or roasted beef, rack of lamb, venison and other richly flavoured game dishes. It also pairs well with roast duck, truffle dishes and mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decant for 1–2 hours when drinking young to allow the wine’s aromas and tannins to open; older bottles should be decanted carefully and briefly, primarily to remove sediment.
