Château Latour, Pauillac Les Forts de Latour CC 2018

Les Forts de Latour 2018 is the distinguished second wine of Château Latour, one of Bordeaux’s five Premier Cru Classé estates. Made with the same attention to detail that defines the Grand Vin, it combines Pauillac’s classic Cabernet Sauvignon character with the richness and accessibility of a strong vintage. The cuvée was established in the 1960s and has since become one of the most sought-after second wines in Bordeaux.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby to garnet in colour, the 2018 vintage opens with expressive aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, plum and violet, alongside subtle notes of cedar, graphite, tobacco and well-integrated oak. On the palate, it is full-bodied and concentrated, with ripe dark fruit, polished tannins and a fresh mineral backbone typical of Pauillac. The finish is long, savoury and refined, with hints of spice and dark chocolate. Although approachable with aeration, this is a structured wine with excellent cellaring potential and should develop gracefully over the next 10–15 years or more.

Production
The wine is produced from selected plots associated with Château Latour, rooted in Pauillac’s distinctive gravel soils, which provide excellent drainage and encourage deep-rooted vines. The 2018 growing season delivered ripe, concentrated fruit, harvested by hand at optimum maturity. Grapes are carefully sorted and vinified plot by plot before being matured in French oak, allowing the blend to develop structure, complexity and polish while preserving its characteristic freshness.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for roast beef, côte de boeuf, lamb, venison and other richly flavoured red meats, it also works beautifully with duck, truffle dishes and mature hard cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for 1–2 hours before serving, particularly when enjoying the wine in its youth; older bottles should be decanted carefully to remove any sediment without overexposing the wine to air.
