Description
Château Latour 2019 is a distinguished Pauillac red from one of Bordeaux’s most revered First Growth estates. Produced from vines surrounding the château’s iconic tower, it combines the power and structure traditionally associated with Pauillac with remarkable precision, depth and long-term ageing potential. The estate’s historic reputation dates back centuries, with its wines formally recognised among Bordeaux’s Premier Crus in the 1855 Classification.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby to almost opaque garnet in appearance, the wine opens with an expressive bouquet of blackcurrant, blackberry and dark plum, complemented by cedar, graphite, violets and subtle tobacco nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied and concentrated, with finely grained tannins, vibrant acidity and layered flavours of cassis, dark berries, spice and mineral. A long, persistent finish reveals impressive balance and freshness.
This is a youthful vintage with considerable ageing potential. It can be enjoyed after careful decanting, but will develop greater complexity and aromatic harmony over the next 15–25 years, and may continue to evolve well beyond that in excellent cellaring conditions.
Production
Château Latour lies in the southern part of Pauillac, close to the Gironde estuary. The vineyards surrounding the renowned “L’Enclos” are planted on deep gravel soils with an underlying layer of clay, helping provide both drainage and water reserves for the vines. Vineyard work is carried out with great precision, followed by strict selection to preserve the clearest expression of each parcel. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats, after which the wine matures for approximately 18–24 months in new French oak barrels, adding structure, polish and complexity.
Food & Serving
A natural partner for richly flavoured dishes such as roast beef, herb-crusted lamb, venison, beef tenderloin and slow-cooked short ribs. It also works beautifully with mature hard cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for two to three hours before serving when enjoying the wine young; older bottles should be handled gently and decanted briefly, if necessary, to remove sediment.
Producer
Château Latour is one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated estates and a cornerstone of the Pauillac appellation. Its vineyards are centred on the historic château and the distinctive tower that has become one of the Médoc’s most recognisable landmarks. Classified as a Premier Cru in 1855, the estate is renowned for its meticulous vineyard management, rigorous selection and powerful, age-worthy wines that consistently express the gravely terroir of Pauillac.
