Château Latour, Pauillac 1 2017

Château Latour 2017 is a distinguished Premier Grand Cru Classé from Pauillac, one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated appellations. Produced by one of the Médoc’s historic estates, the wine combines the estate’s signature Cabernet Sauvignon structure with the depth, precision and long-lived character for which Château Latour is renowned.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby to garnet in appearance, the wine opens with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, accompanied by notes of cedar, graphite, violet and subtle spice. On the palate, it is concentrated yet finely balanced, with ripe dark fruit, firm but polished tannins and a fresh mineral character typical of Pauillac. A lingering finish reveals layers of cassis, tobacco and finely integrated oak. The 2017 vintage is already approachable with decanting, but its structure and freshness give it excellent ageing potential. It should develop further complexity over the next 15–25 years, depending on storage conditions.

Production
The vineyards of Château Latour are planted on the deep gravel soils of Pauillac, which provide excellent drainage while allowing the vines to reach moisture reserves below the surface. The estate’s predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines are made from carefully selected grapes harvested by hand, with parcels vinified separately to preserve their individual character. Fermentation takes place under controlled conditions, followed by maturation in French oak, allowing the wine to gain texture and complexity while retaining its hallmark precision.

Food & Serving
This structured Pauillac is an excellent match for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, venison and other richly flavoured game dishes. It also pairs beautifully with earthy accompaniments such as wild mushrooms, truffle and mature hard cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for 1–2 hours before serving, particularly when enjoying the wine in its youth; older bottles should be decanted carefully to remove any sediment.
