Chateau Latour-Martillac, Lagrave-Martillac Blanc, 2023

Château Latour-Martillac’s Lagrave-Martillac Blanc is the estate’s second white wine, produced since the 1990s with the same care and attention as its flagship cuvée. The 2023 vintage brings together equal parts Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, showcasing the classic Bordeaux white-wine style through a balance of freshness, richness and aromatic complexity.

Tasting Notes
Bright and appealing in the glass, the wine displays a yellow hue with delicate green reflections. The nose opens with citrus fruit, crisp apple and peach, followed by hints of melon, jasmine and acacia honey. On the palate, fresh citrus and lively acidity are complemented by exotic fruit and the generous, rounded texture of Sémillon. Sauvignon Blanc provides elegance and vibrancy, while the balanced 50/50 blend gives the wine both energy and volume. It is enjoyable in its youth, with the concentration and structure to develop further complexity over the next few years.

Production
Lagrave-Martillac Blanc is made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon grown in the Bordeaux region around Martillac. The technical team gives this second wine the same careful attention and treatment as the estate’s first wine, allowing the two varieties to express their complementary characters. The final cuvée is composed in equal proportions, combining Sauvignon Blanc’s freshness and citrus profile with Sémillon’s richness and texture.

Food & Serving
Serve chilled at around 9–11°C. This versatile white Bordeaux is an excellent match for oysters, prawns, grilled fish, shellfish, sushi and fresh goat’s cheese; its fuller texture also makes it well suited to lightly spiced dishes and roast poultry. Decanting is not essential, but a brief period of aeration in the glass or a small decanter can help reveal its floral and honeyed notes.
