Les Forts de Latour is the second wine of the legendary Château Latour, one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated estates overlooking the Gironde estuary. The 2018 vintage is marked by remarkable quality, as an unusually high proportion of fruit that could have gone into the grand vin was selected for Les Forts de Latour. Expect a deep, dark color, with an expressive nose of cassis, blackberry, cedar, graphite, and subtle tobacco notes. On the palate, it is concentrated and precise, with fine-grained tannins, excellent balance, and the classic Pauillac combination of power, freshness, and mineral drive. Compared with the grand vin, Les Forts de Latour is typically more open in its youth, yet this 2018 still has the backbone to age gracefully for many years. Its freshness and structure suggest strong cellaring potential, allowing the wine to develop more complex tertiary notes of leather, cedar, and earthy spice over time.

Crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc sourced from the Bordeaux terroir around Pauillac, Les Forts de Latour reflects the gravels and maritime influence that help shape the estate’s distinctive style. The vineyard sits close to the Gironde, where well-drained soils and a temperate climate promote slow, even ripening. Fruit selection is rigorous, and in this vintage, more than half of the fruit eligible for Château Latour’s grand vin was directed into Les Forts de Latour, underscoring the exceptional quality of the harvest.

This wine is an excellent match for roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game birds, and dishes with mushrooms or truffle. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if enjoying it young to help reveal its aromatic complexity and soften the tannins.
