Forts de Latour 2019 is the second wine of Château Latour, one of Pauillac’s most revered estates, offering a refined glimpse into the power and pedigree of this legendary property. Built from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it combines classic Left Bank structure with the estate’s trademark restraint and precision. In a warm vintage such as 2019, it shows impressive depth, though it is still very much in its youth.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it is deeply colored, with blue and purple fruit at the core and a concentrated, brooding profile. The nose opens gradually with notes of lavender, graphite, sage and mocha, followed by darker berry fruit and subtle savory nuance. On the palate, the wine is tense and firmly framed, with compact mid-palate density and tannins that currently dominate the finish. It has the structure to age beautifully and will likely benefit from significant cellaring before showing its full complexity.

Production
Sourced from the Pauillac terroir of Château Latour, where gravelly soils and a maritime climate help Cabernet Sauvignon achieve remarkable precision and power, 2019 was shaped by a warm growing season tempered by rain just before harvest. That late rainfall helped preserve balance and contributed to yields of around 45 hectoliters per hectare. Vinified in the estate’s classic style, the wine emphasizes concentration, structure and freshness rather than early accessibility.

Food & Serving
This wine is best served with richly flavored dishes such as roasted lamb, beef ribeye, venison or duck breast, as well as truffled mushrooms and hard aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting is recommended if drinking young, though a long decant may still not fully soften its firm tannic frame.
