Description

Château Latour 2006 Magnum is a powerful and highly collectible Pauillac from one of Bordeaux’s most iconic estates. Built on the estate’s legendary gravel-and-clay terroir and crafted with remarkable precision, it offers the depth, structure, and longevity that have made Château Latour a benchmark for First Growth Bordeaux. Rooted in a history that stretches back to the 14th century, it stands as a classic expression of the château’s enduring prestige.

Tasting Notes
Deep garnet-purple in the glass, the 2006 shows impressive intensity and freshness. The nose opens with crème de cassis, black forest cake, cured meats, wood smoke, licorice, sandalwood, iron ore, and a lift of dried roses, giving it both power and aromatic complexity. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, rich yet tightly composed, with velvety tannins and refined spice. The finish is long, perfumed, and structured, with enough vitality to keep evolving beautifully. While drinking well now, it has the concentration and balance to cellar gracefully for 20 years or more.

Production
Château Latour’s vineyards cover about 78 hectares in Pauillac, planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot completing the blend. The estate’s terroir is exceptional: deep gravel and clay soils topped with large rounded stones that absorb and retain heat, helping the grapes achieve full ripeness in Bordeaux’s maritime climate. In recent years, the estate has shifted toward more sustainable viticulture, and since 2015 the entire vineyard has been farmed organically. Horses are used for ploughing, and the focus is now firmly on the relationship between vine, soil, and environment. The 2006 was vinified with the precision expected of a First Growth, emphasizing purity, structure, and long-term aging potential.

Food & Serving
This is a wine for classic, richly flavored dishes such as prime rib, lamb rack, venison, beef Wellington, or slow-braised short ribs. It also pairs beautifully with truffled dishes and aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if opening now to allow the aromas and tannins to fully open.

Producer
Château Latour is one of the most famous names in world wine and one of the four Médoc estates ranked as Premier Cru Classé in the 1855 Classification. With origins dating back to the 14th century, the estate has long been associated with excellence, power, and age-worthy Bordeaux. Since 1993, it has been owned by François Pinault, under whose stewardship the château has continued to strengthen its reputation as one of the finest producers in the region.
