Description

Château Latour 2000 in double magnum format is a statement bottle from one of Bordeaux’s most revered First Growth estates. Renowned for its precision, depth, and remarkable longevity, this Pauillac legend combines power with elegance in a way few wines can match. With roots stretching back to the 1300s, Château Latour has long stood as a benchmark for great Bordeaux.

Tasting Notes
The 2000 vintage shows a deep, concentrated color and impressive visual intensity. On the nose, it offers layers of ripe black fruits, graphite, spice, and subtle earthy complexity, all wrapped in a polished, pristine aromatic profile. On the palate, the wine is dense and structured yet remarkably refined, with sweet, firm tannins, vivid freshness, and exceptional purity. Blackcurrant, plum, and dark berry flavors are carried by a long, persistent finish, and its balance suggests excellent aging potential for decades, especially in this large-format bottle.

Production
Château Latour sits in Pauillac on a superb terroir of deep gravel and clay, topped with large rounded stones that absorb and retain heat well into the evening. The estate’s vineyards are planted predominantly with Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and a touch of Petit Verdot. For the 2000 vintage, fruit from old vines and low yields helped create a wine of great concentration; the estate has also since moved toward organic farming, with horse ploughing introduced to support soil health and a more sustainable approach to viticulture.

Food & Serving
This is a wine to serve with equally impressive dishes such as roast lamb, beef fillet, venison, or truffle-accented dishes, as well as mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for several hours if opening in its youth; for an older bottle, a gentler decant is recommended to preserve its aromatic finesse.

Producer
Château Latour is one of the most famous estates in Bordeaux and one of the original four Médoc First Growths classified in 1855. The property’s history dates back to the 14th century, when the tower that gave the estate its name was built during the Hundred Years’ War. Since 1993, it has been owned by François Pinault, and the estate continues to be recognized worldwide for producing wines of extraordinary intensity, balance, and aging capacity.
