Description

Château Langoa-Barton 2016 is a distinguished Saint-Julien red from one of the Médoc’s classified growth estates, ranked as a Troisième Cru Classé in the 1855 Classification. The vintage combines the château’s hallmark Cabernet-led structure with the ripe, generous fruit of an exceptional Bordeaux year, offering both immediate appeal and considerable cellaring potential.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby to garnet in colour, the wine opens with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, followed by cedar, graphite, violets and subtle tobacco. On the palate, it is full-bodied and finely structured, with concentrated dark fruit, fresh acidity and firm yet polished tannins. The finish is long and mineral, with savoury oak and cassis notes emerging as the wine develops. With proper cellaring, Château Langoa-Barton 2016 should mature beautifully over the next 15–25 years.

Production
The vineyards lie on the gravelly soils typical of Saint-Julien, with clay beneath helping to retain water and support the vines during dry periods. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted before traditional fermentation in temperature-controlled vats. The wine is then matured in French oak, including a significant proportion of new barrels, allowing the structure and fruit to integrate while preserving the estate’s characteristic freshness and precision.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C after allowing the wine to breathe. A young bottle will benefit from decanting for approximately 1–2 hours, while a mature bottle should be decanted carefully to remove any sediment. Its depth and structure make it an excellent match for roast beef, lamb, venison, grilled entrecôte, duck and richly flavoured mushroom dishes, as well as mature hard cheeses.

Producer
Château Langoa-Barton has been owned by the Barton family since 1821 and remains closely associated with Château Léoville Barton, sharing the same long-standing commitment to traditional, terroir-driven winemaking. The estate is located in the heart of Saint-Julien and is recognised for producing classic, long-lived wines that balance Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure with elegance and aromatic definition. Its 1855 Classified Growth status places it among the historic reference estates of the Médoc.
