Château Lagrange, Saint Julien Les Fiefs de Lagrange 2017

Les Fiefs de Lagrange is the second wine of Château Lagrange, a distinguished Third Growth estate in Saint-Julien, Bordeaux. The 2017 vintage offers the estate’s hallmark balance of Cabernet Sauvignon-led structure and polished fruit in a more approachable style, making it an excellent introduction to the château’s character.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour, the wine opens with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, complemented by subtle notes of cedar, violet and gentle spice. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with fresh acidity, refined tannins and a balanced combination of dark fruit and savoury nuances. The finish is smooth and persistent, with the structure to develop further in bottle while already offering enjoyable drinking.

Production
Château Lagrange’s vineyards lie on the gravelly soils of Saint-Julien, where excellent drainage and the region’s maritime climate favour the slow, even ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon and its traditional Bordeaux companions. Les Fiefs de Lagrange is produced from younger-vine parcels and selected lots from the estate, with the exact blend varying by vintage. The 2017 wine was made with careful selection, fermentation in temperature-controlled vats and maturation in oak to integrate the tannins and preserve the wine’s freshness and fruit.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C after allowing the wine to come to temperature. A short decant of 30–60 minutes can help open its aromas, although older bottles should be handled gently. It pairs particularly well with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck, veal, grilled mushrooms and mature hard cheeses.

Château Lagrange is one of Saint-Julien’s historic estates and was classified as a Troisième Cru Classé in the 1855 Classification. Acquired by Suntory in 1983, the property underwent extensive investment in its vineyards and winery, helping restore its reputation for precise, elegant and age-worthy wines. The estate’s second wine, Les Fiefs de Lagrange, expresses this Saint-Julien identity in a more accessible and earlier-drinking format.
