Château Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac Carruades de Lafite 2023

Château Lafite-Rothschild’s Carruades de Lafite is the estate’s renowned second wine, offering an accessible expression of the Pauillac estate’s signature precision and elegance. Named after the Carruades plots adjoining the château’s historic vineyards, it combines the structure of a great Médoc wine with a particularly polished, silky style.

Tasting Notes
The 2023 vintage opens with an expressive nose of blackcurrant and raspberry, complemented by subtle mint-like nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet refined, with a silky texture and a poised balance between power and elegance. The finish is long, fresh and highly polished, leaving a lingering impression of ripe fruit and delicate herbal notes. With its combination of concentration, freshness and supple tannins, Carruades de Lafite 2023 should develop gracefully in bottle. It can be enjoyed relatively young for its aromatic charm, while careful cellaring should allow additional complexity to emerge over the coming years.

Production
Produced in Pauillac according to the traditional Bordeaux method, the wine undergoes alcoholic fermentation in a combination of wooden vats, concrete tanks and stainless-steel tanks. Maceration lasts approximately 20 days, followed by malolactic fermentation and 16 months of maturation in French oak barrels. The estate’s gravel-rich Pauillac terroir contributes structure, drainage and the precision associated with Château Lafite-Rothschild wines.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C alongside roasted or grilled beef, lamb, venison and other richly flavoured red meats. It also pairs well with duck, mushroom-based dishes and mature hard cheeses. The wine may be enjoyed without decanting when young, but decanting for around 1–2 hours can help open its aromas and soften its structure.
